The 2022 King of the Court Crown Series will be fought over five international tournaments covering four continents with a total of USD 500,000 in prize money.
Miramar®, An American Riviera Brand, founded on the golden shores of California at America's Riviera, together with King of the Court®, and its Mikasa® partners, are pleased again to be the global apparel and official beach volleyball of the 2022 Crown Series.
The new tour, the 2022 King of the Court Crown Series, will commence in June. The first stop along the way is Hamburg (23-26 June) where the event will be hosted for the second year in a row following the success of last year’s tournament at the Stadion am Rothenbaum.
For the third year in a row and fifth time in total, players will visit the home of King of the Court, the city of Ultrecht in the Netherlands. From 6-11 September the Jaarbeursplein will once again host the iconic skybox stadium. It will be larger than ever before, with a maximum of 1,000 visitors per session.
New on the tour is Itapema, Brazil. From 2 to 6 November the beautiful beach resort in the Southern part of Brazil, that has played host to several World Tour stops and will stage a Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour event in April 2022, will now feature as the first international King of the Court tournament to be held on the southern hemisphere and the first-ever in Latin-America.
On 1 to 4 December, the fourth stop of the tour will be held in Australia, the country’s first-ever King of the Court tournament. The event will follow the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour tournaments in November.
Olympian Christopher St. John "Sinjin" Smith and President of Miramar Sports and Entertainment, considered by many to be the greatest beach volleyball player of all time, added "Miramar is thrilled to work again together with Wilco Nijiland, Sportworx and the FIVB on the new 2022 King of the Court Crown Series and further cement our partnership which began together back in 2018. Wilco's concept, vision and execution are the future and just what the global sport of beach volleyball needs at this exciting moment and reset for our sport."
Smith is often credited as the godfather of modern beach volleyball and worked tirelessly with Ruben Acosta, then President of the FIVB, Juan Antonio Samaranch of the IOC and Billy Payne of the USOC and former Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, to bring beach volleyball to the Olympic Games in 1996. Smith's 1996 Olympic match with journeyman Carl Henkel against Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes is considered by many to be the greatest beach volleyball match ever played.
The annual King of the Court Crown Series Finals will be held on 11-14 January 2023. For the second time in a row, the King of the Court tour will conclude at the Aspire Zone in Doha, Qatar. As an added bonus, teams will also be able to host their training camps in Qatar to prepare for the 2023 season.
